Dynamic interactive epistemology

چکیده
The epistemic program in game theory uses formal models of interactive reasoning to provide foundations for various game-theoretic solution concepts. Much of this work is based around the (static) Aumann structure model of interactive epistemology, but more recently dynamic models of interactive reasoning have been developed, most notably by Stalnaker [Econ. Philos. 12 (1996) 133– 163] and Battigalli and Siniscalchi [J. Econ. Theory 88 (1999) 188–230], and used to analyze rational play in extensive form games. But while the properties of Aumann structures are well understood, without a formal language in which belief and belief revision statements can be expressed, it is unclear exactly what are the properties of these dynamic models. Here we investigate this question by defining such a language. A semantics and syntax are presented, with soundness and completeness theorems linking the two. 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. On the Role of Interactive Epistemology in Multiagent Planning
This paper focuses on the foundational role of interactive epistemology in the problem of generating plans for rational agents in multiagent settings. Interactive epistemology deals with the logic of knowledge and belief when there is more than one agent. In multiagent settings, we are interested in not only the agent’s knowledge of the state of the world, but also its belief over the other age...
متن کاملDynamic psychological games
The motivation of decision makers who care for emotions, reciprocity, or social conformity may depend directly on beliefs (about choices, beliefs, or information). Geanakoplos, Pearce & Stacchetti (Games and Economic Behavior, 1989) point out that traditional game theory is ill-equipped to address such matters, and they pioneer a new framework which does. However, their toolbox — psychological ...
متن کاملChanging Metaphors for Designing Interactive Multimedia for Higher Education: From Media Producer to Dialogical Collaborator
In this paper, we: (a) review briefly the problematic nature of the initial design process and the subsequent paradigm shift in which the formerly separate strands of research and design became interwoven into a dialectical collaborative process, (b) outline the way in which the multimedia program makes possible a multi-dimensional curriculum including a constructivist epistemology of undergrad...
متن کاملHierarchies of Conditional Beliefs and Interactive Epistemology in Dynamic Games1
The epistemic analysis of solution concepts for dynamic games involves statements about the players’ beliefs conditional upon different histories of play, their conditional beliefs about each other’s conditional beliefs, etc. To represent such statements, we construct a space of infinite (coherent) hierarchies of conditional probability systems, defined with respect to a fixed collection of rel...
